10 Super Bowl Party Ideas to Help You Pretend You’re a Sports Person
Ah, the Super Bowl. Aka the one game of the year where all the bandwagon fans (*raises hand*) suddenly get on board and pretend they’re into football. OG sports fans or not, everyone’s entitled to sitting on the couch for four hours and eating their body weight in nachos—even if this is technically their first game all season.
And while you’re at it, you might as well have people over to share your couch and nachos. Otherwise, how would this be any different from what you do every Sunday? That’s right, we’re talking an actual Super Bowl party. But let’s be clear: You can do better than inviting your friends over, flipping on the TV, and passing sad snacks around.
To make this party totally awesome (and Insta Story–worthy), you’re gonna need some halp. That’s where I come in. Let’s start with the basics for any football-challenged readers out there: For 2022 (the 50th Super Bowl!), the game is on Sunday, February 13. And even though we don’t officially know who’s playing yet, we do know what the halftime show will bring. Get ready for Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, and Snoop Dogg. Yup, all five will be gracing your screens come February.
Now that we’ve got that down, it’s time to talk party details. Before you text your mom asking for Super Bowl party food ideas or search “Super Bowl party decorations” on Amazon, let me work my magic. I did a total internet deep-dive (trust me) to find the best Super Bowl party inspo. Here, 10 Super Bowl party ideas that might even get Bill Belichick
to smile. (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, look it up).

1. Play some bingo (and make it boozy)
Play a game of football-inspired bingo or commercial bingo (you’re watching them all anyway, so might as well make a game out of it)—and add a lil booze if ya want. Every time a person gets bingo, they have to finish their drink or take a shot.
2. Mix up some touchdown punch
If you’re not super into beer or straight-up shots of liquor, allow me to introduce you to this delicious punch. You’ll be sippin’ this one all day.
- 1 L Sprite
- 4 c. Seltzer
- 1 bottle Prosecco
- 1 c. vodka
- ¼ c. blue Curaçao
- 1 lemon, thinly sliced
- 3 c. ice
Combine all the ingredients in a punch bowl and stir. Then serve into glasses.
Recipe from Delish.
3. Have everyone dress on-theme
Whether you’re actually a fan of the teams playing or just love an excuse for a ~theme party~, have your guests dress in their sporty best. You’re the host, after all! And what you say goes.
4. Light up a beer candle (!)
Every good football fan knows you’re required to watch with a Bud Light in hand (they’re an official sponsor of the NFL, after all)—but you can go the extra mile by lighting a Bud Light candle during the party.
5. Serve snacks in something on-brand
Yeah, you could serve your Tostitos and salsa out of regular bowls, but what fun would that be? These serving sets and trays are waaaay cuter and basically begging to be ’grammed.
6. Get fancy with a Miami-inspired mojito
If you’re not getting the theme here, obviously alc is ~the move~ for Super Bowl Sunday. And it might be worth impressing your guests with a supes fancy mojito to make up for the fact that you’re having to watch football (joking! kinda).
- 2 parts Bacardí Superior Rum
- 4 lime wedges
- 12 fresh mint leaves
- 2 tsp extra-fine sugar
- 1 part soda water/club soda
- Sprig of fresh mint
Add the lime wedges, sugar, mint leaves, and gently muddle until the limes release juice. Add Bacardí Superior and mix the ingredients with a bar spoon. Fill with crushed ice and stir once again. Add club soda and garnish with mint.
Recipe from Bacardí Rum.
7. Add some festive decor
Add a few balloons, some festive napkins, and a banner to spice things up a bit. Pro tip: Keep the decor free of team names, so you can use ’em again next year.
8. Chef up some BBQ pork sliders
The main event of any good Super Bowl party is obviously the food. And sliders are a must. Here’s a recipe for BBQ pork sliders that’ll make your mouth water.
Recipe from Half Baked Harvest.
9. Place Over/Under Bets
That’s fancy sports lingo for betting whether the total score of the game will be over or under a certain number. But you can also do it for things like how many times we’ll see Snoop Dogg sneak off to smoke during the halftime show. My money’s on over 10. Whoever gets the most predictions right wins a trophy—a bottle of booze.
10. Sing half-time karaoke
If the halftime show gets boring, whip out a karaoke mic and let your frands channel their inner Gaga till the game’s back on.
