Sydney’s famous Batman house is back on the market.

The former ASX-listed Sydney Airport director Ann Sherry has relisted her 10-bedroom estate, Annandale Abbey, with price expectations remaining around $15m.

Adorned with gothic stonework, turrets and gargoyles, the Abbey was listed unsuccessfully last November through CobdenHayson.

The incredible home at 272 Johnston Street, Annandale features sweeping city views and is considered one of the finest historical homes in Australia.

The imposing inner-city residence known as The Abbey, was built in 1881 and is known for its wonderful architecture.

The home is considered one of Sydney and Australia’s best surviving pieces of Gothic architecture – the iconic design style that has found a firm foothold in popular culture, via Marvel’s Batman franchise.

The 1309sq m property has been restored since its $4.86m purchase in 2010, with Sherry’s husband Michael Hogan, when she was the Carnival cruise lines boss.

This time the downsizing couple have enlisted the Black Diamondz agency.

Their restoration saw the couple receive a National Trust Heritage award in 2015.

The residence, which sits in Will Dangar-designed gardens, is also one of the remaining “witches houses” that were built by architect John Young.

When it was last listed in October 2021, price expectations were also around the $15m mark.

If the home sells for around that mark, it would set a new record for Annadale, by more than 50 per cent.

The other homes included Oybin, Kenilworth, Rozelle (since demolished), Greba, Hockindon, Highroyd and Claremont (since demolished).

Mr Young was known as the principal builder of St Mary’s Cathedral, and it was rumoured he used gargoyles from the cathedral on The Abbey.

A local landmark, Annandale Abbey fell into disrepair before it was restored to its former glory.

Their stunning restoration saw the couple receive an award from the National Trust Heritage in 2015.

Made from sandstone and double brick — a rarity at the time of construction, the palatial residence has soaring ceilings, a turret and converted coach stables that is now a detached three-bedroom residence.

Inside has a character kitchen, grand living and dining areas, a music room inside a converted former chapel, wine cellar and yoga studio. There are also acclaimed landscaped gardens by Dangar, a heated outdoor swimming pool and a grotto on the boundary of Johnston St.
