Hyderabad: A man consuming raw chicken stabbed 23-year-old bandmaster M. Ajay to death and his wife Priyanka sustained injuries when the couple questioned him on Monday, Tukaramgate police said. The couple was celebrating Sankranti festival with their friends when they noticed a neighbour, Srinivas Chary, consuming the chicken in front of their house.

When the couple questioned Srinivas Chary, he stabbed Ajay with a knife. Chary also stabbed Priyanka who tried to intervene, and fled. Police later took Chary into custody. They said he had been “behaving abnormally” for the past few days.

Ajay succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital while Priyanka is being treated at a private hospital.

Drunk Man Damages Prof. Jayashankar Statue in Serilingampally

An inebriated man vandalised a statue of Telangana ideologue Prof. Jayashankar at Yellammabanda in Serilingampally’s Allwyn Colony on Tuesday. Police identified him as Govind of Mahaveer Colony. Kukatpally sub-inspector Sagar said that police personnel at the spot tried to stop him. “Since he was in a drunken state, forcibly taking him into custody would be risky. So the personnel waited for a while till Govind calmed down and then took him into custody.” Police sent him to a hospital to evaluate the alcohol content in his blood.

“We will question him after he sobers up,” said Sagar. Police booked a case of destroying government property and under the public nuisance Act, he said.

NRI Trys to Stop Wife Being Kidnapped, Stabbed to Death

An intruder stabbed 38-year-old NRI Ghouse Mohiuddin who was trying to stop the accused from kidnapping his wife at his apartment in Shaikpet, police said on Tuesday. The accused, Hassan, had been stalking Mohiuddin’s wife Meena Roohi for long.

Filmnagar inspector K. Ramesh Goud said that the accused, identified as Hassan, had entered Mohuddin’s flat with a dagger, held the NRI’s wife’s hand and demanded that she come with her. When Mohiuddin intervened, Hassan stabbed him and fled.

Mohiuddin was shifted to a private hospital where he died while undergoing treatment, Ramesh said.

The victim’s wife had gone to the UK in February 2022 to pursue her studies and Mohiuddin followed her three months later. They returned in November.

Hassan, who was in the UK at that time, had been stalking Mohiuddin’s wife and wanted to marry her, police said. He returned to India and called Meena several times not she did not respond.

Police began investigations and have reportedly taken Hassan into custody but this could not be confirmed.
