Baby handed to US soldiers over Kabul airport fence is missing: report

A 2-month-old baby boy handed to US troops over a fence at Kabul’s airport amid President Biden’s chaotic evacuation in August is missing out on, according to a report.

The United States government acknowledged it’s trying to fix the disappearance of baby Sohail Ahmadi– with the State Department informing Reuters it’s working “to check out every opportunity to locate the child.”

The baby’s dad, former United States embassy guard Mirza Ali Ahmadi, his better half Suraya and the couple’s other 4 children got in the Kabul airport shortly after the handoff, but weren’t able to find Sohail.

Mirza Ali Ahmadi does not speak English, the news wire reports, and through a translator initially was informed the kid might have remained in a separate part of the Kabul airport or that he may have been independently evacuated to Qatar.

The remainder of the family ultimately was flown to Qatar and then to Fort Bliss, Texas.

Ahmadi said that he saw other parents handing their children to US soldiers over the fence on Aug. 19 shortly after the Taliban swept into the Afghan capital, sending out a crush of civilians towards United States military aircrafts.

The other infants are believed to have actually been returned to their moms and dads. Kabul’s airport was the final spot of US-controlled area ahead of Biden’s Aug. 31 withdrawal deadline and was the site of a battle on Aug. 26 by believed Islamic State terrorists that eliminated 13 United States troops and more than 150 Afghans at a checkpoint.

Pictures of children being passed over the airport fence were widely distributed throughout the significant last days of the 20-year war.

Among the soldiers who died in the airport battle, United States Marine Nicole Gee, 23, posted to Instagram a picture of herself taking care of an Afghan infant on Aug. 20, with the caption “I like my job.”

The missing out on child is the current blight on the US pullout. The Pentagon admitted in September that an Aug. 29 drone strike that it had claimed eliminated Islamic State bombers actually wiped out 10 Afghan civilians, consisting of a longtime employee of a United States not-for-profit and as many as 7 kids.
