Now is a great time to apply for a passport. Service times are getting back to normal, but it still takes 8 to 11 weeks for routine service and 5 to 7 weeks for expedited help with a fee. Another thing to keep in mind is, processing times do not include mailing times, as that can vary around the country.

How can I keep myself safe while traveling internationally?

Sign up for the U.S. Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to enroll with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate where you’re traveling. It’s a free service providing safety alerts during natural disasters, unrest or other emergencies.
