Not only was Jessica Biel acting alongside her husband Justin Timberlake in Hulu’s latest crime series Candy, but it looks like she was unconsciously channeling his old hair too.
“It did look so similar,” the actor told E! News when comparing her look on the show with her husband’s iconic ’90s ’do. “And then, [Justin] was like, ‘Well, wait a minute, you kinda look like my mom from the ’80s.’ And I said, ‘I kind of look like my grandmother from the ’80s.’ The perms were big.”
A quick look at Candy‘s trailer tells you all you need to know about the ‘80s murder drama, which was inspired by true events. The show follows Candy Montgomery, portrayed by Biel, who was put on trial for murdering her best friend after having an affair with her husband. While Biel’s strong Southern accent and acting chops put her tightly in my personal race for the best actress category at the Emmys next year, so does her poodle-esque locks.

While Timberlake’s ramen boy-band hair, courtesy of his NSYNC days, didn’t serve as a direct inspiration for Biel’s wig on the show, the comparisons thrived nonetheless. Katie Ballard, the hair department head for Candy, tells Glamour it was crucial that Biel’s character was accurate to the ’80s—including partaking in the over-the-top perming practices of the time. Ballard worked with Stacy Butterworth, Biel’s longtime wig maker, to make magic happen.
