Paris Plans Electric Flying Taxi Paths in Time for Olympics
France will begin testing electrical air taxis in coming months at a center outside Paris with the goal of having two dedicated flight courses to shuttle guests in time for the 2024 summer Olympics.
One path would link Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Le Bourget airports and the other would be in between 2 suburbs southwest of the French capital, according to a declaration Thursday from Aeroports de Paris.
Volocopter GmbH, Jet SE, Vertical Aerospace Group Ltd, Lilium NV and Joby Aviation are among airplane developers taking part in the task in addition to France’s civil aviation authority, the airports operator said. The landing and departure zones at the Pontoise-Cormeilles-en-Vexin hub were adapted for the tests previously this year.

Britain’s Vertical Aerospace and German competing Volocopter are amongst European companies contending for orders along with Lilium.
The French project adds to a growing list of prepared bases around the world consisting of those being promoted by infrastructure firm Urban-Air Port and South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Co., which is targeting the opening early next year of a very first site in Coventry, England.
Tests at the two-runway Pontoise center will include: sound, vibration measurements on Volocopter flights; safe combination of drones, eVTOLs with standard air traffic; and battery charging, lorry upkeep.
