Selena Gomez was recently spotted in double French knots—the best hairstyle to do if you’re trying to survive heat or a bad hair day.
It’s an ingenious solution: When the temperature is high, we know far too well how hair can stick to the face and neck, making you sweat all the more. But as much as we’re ready for pumpkin spice latte season, the temperatures haven’t quite caught up. So until fall weather officially arrives, Gomez has the perfect hairstyle. The French-braid knot is brilliant not only when it’s hot but also when your hair doesn’t want to go your way—also known as the dreaded bad hair day.
Gomez recently posted a snapshot of herself in a summery light blue dress, but our focus was on her beautiful braided hairstyle. She owes the look to Los Angeles hairstylist Marissa Marino. In the picture, which was also shared by the singer’s nail artist, Tom Bachik, Gomez is seen with a double French braid that’s pinned at the nape of the neck into two small chignons.
No slips, no disturbed strands—everything is wonderfully packed into the braid. That’s what makes it so perfect for bad hair days.
Hairstylist Marissa Marino didn’t post any instructions for how to do the double French knot but wrote, “A little braid for a change.” Even so, you can get Gomez’s hairstyle done quite easily. The best way to do it is to divide your hair along the part into two sections at the back of your head, then braid a French braid on each side from the hairline to the ends. After that, pin the braided ends of the French braids with bobby pins. Done!
Matching the romantic and practical with her double French knots, Selena Gomez also kept that spirit going in her look: a blue dress with delicate jewelry and ballerina slippers. Together with the natural makeup, the whole thing really is a summer success.
